My name is Michael Gilbert and this'll hopefully be my 5th trip to sunny Miami to take part in the FitBit Half and Full Marathon and I would honestly be lying through my teeth if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous. Before my first trip in 2015, I'll be the first person to tell you that I was not a runner at all; the closest thing I ever had to ANY type of physical activity was whenever I went to gym in middle and high school and the 2 summers I spent at a sports camp just outside of Baltimore,MD. I first really found out about Team Yachad while I was on the 2nd trip of the awesome Yad B' Yad summer program with my twin sister back in 2014. Once I signed for that first trip I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. I was told that I was going to have to train like there was no tomorrow if I wanted to even think about finishing ( and don't even get me started on the fundraising). Since then, I've started to take each trip more seriously than the previous year. I have run through heat and humidity, whatever South Florida defines as cold, and the poring rain and came out a better and more fit person for it. Honestly, Team Yachad has really given me a true sense as to what being part of an organization and a team means; and if I was given the option to change any of those past experiences, I wouldn't change a thing.
